"99¢ Store / 천원 가게"
The 99¢ Store or "천원 가게" (cheon-won ga-ge) is a temporary pop-up art-print shop. Its pricing is structured by emulating first-generation immigrant economies in America. Although the products and transactions are real, no financial profit is gained by the proprietor YBZ. It is number 7 in the series "Fermentations" by YBZ.
All prints are giclée / inkjet on 11" x 14" archival-quality traditional Korean Hanji paper. This paper has natural imperfections. Original art (19" x 24") has been scaled down to fit this format.
About YBZ
YBZ is a Los Angeles-based artist who currently works in the field of minor histories, evolving human value systems, ecologies, and future-social proof-of-concepts. YBZ claims to be the first "(Everettian) Many Worlds" artist in that he believes the creative act can open up new timelines in the multiverse — each timeline's or universe's sustainability determined by its value, viability, and propagating power. His current work "Fermentations" is a series of drawings, mixed media, performance and soon-to-be paintings. He studied Studio Art at the University of California, Design and Technology in New York, and Seon (Zen) Buddhist philosophy in South Korea.
